In the midst of discussions about illegal immigration, there is a risk factor only mentioned here and there. It's one more critical reason immigrants must assimilate into American culture as they learn about and follow American law.
What I'm talking about is the threat to thousands of young girls: female genital mutilation, FGM. It’s arranged by many immigrant families who believe what they're doing is beneficial and acceptable, but in the U.S., it's illegal virtually everywhere, with felony penalties for those convicted. Yet it's still being done under the radar by sketchy doctors and midwives.
FGM is the “partial or total removal of the external genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for nonmedical reasons” with “no known health benefits, but many reported harmful consequences,” according to the American Academy of Family Physicians.
It is widely considered a human rights violation, often performed on prepubescent little girls.
But think about the irony upon irony here. Where is the always- outraged major media? Where are America’s feminists and the #MeToo folks? Pretty quiet on this. We know the left celebrates the mutilation of girls’ bodies for the purposes of “transgender health.” Seldom do any of the talking heads of progressive politics mention FGM, a more prevalent form of assault and abuse. Why? Is it because this outrage is also acceptable?
Unlikely. The most plausible reason for their relative silence is to shield its practitioners: immigrants and Muslims. And Muslims are considered leftist allies. Progressives once again remain mute as Islam terrorizes communities and individuals and as unassimilated immigrant groups enable unhealthy, harmful practices they bring to the U.S.
FGM is not just a Muslim regimen, but appears among a few other ethnic groups and Christian sects, primarily from Africa. But would any true Christian subject a daughter to this debilitating, demonic practice?
The U.S. Constitution and our laws based on Judeo-Christian principles guarantee human rights for everyone, including girls and women. It is essential for immigrants to America to understand this and pledge to respect American civic legal authority.
But we know that many arrive here, legal or not, embracing a far different set of standards that allow for human rights’ abuses. Sharia law prescribes harsh penalties, sometimes death, for non-Muslims, including Christians and Jews. Male Muslims are free to “discipline” their wives and daughters as they see fit. In the UK, countless rapes of white girls by mostly Pakistani immigrants are going unpunished because of insane political deference to Muslim sensibilities.
Following very primitive ideas of right and wrong, many immigrant fathers and mothers take their sweet little 6 -to -10– year- old girls to an adult “cutter” to have sometimes large portions of their female genitals severed. Sometimes the vaginal opening is stitched closed. It’s a method of controlling the future sexuality of females, and is sold to these terrified children as necessary to make them “clean” and ready to be a good wife in the future.
This is not how we think in America, praise God, and it’s one more reason to stand up for legal immigration followed by assimilation, and against power and land grabs by Muslims in our states and cities. Thank God for policy initiatives like Proposition 10 in Texas, which would prohibit sharia law. Portions of Minneapolis, Dearborn, and other Muslim enclaves would benefit from desegregation and recognition of /deference to American law. If we continue allowing these unassimilated communities to develop, we will be forced to accept many heartbreaking abuses, FGM among them.
Immigrants to the US coming from countries where FGM is practiced and whose females are therefore most at risk here in America, are Egypt, Ethiopia, Somalia, Nigeria and other African countries. The practice is also found in Asia.
There is no medical basis for this treatment and it’s considered a human rights abuse even by the United Nations. Yet the American College of Ob/Gyns estimates that more than 513,000 girls and women in the U.S. have experienced FGM or are at risk. Globally, the figure is 230 million. Girls are persuaded by adults in their lives, often their mothers and aunts, that it’s a worthy coming-of-age ritual, expected within their circle of family, friends and religious adherents. In this way, it’s similar to the barbaric practice of transgender medicine’s manipulation of children. Adults in authority persuade children that deliberate damage to a healthy body is normal and helpful.
In a landmark case in 2021, a Michigan federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against two doctors and their assistants over practicing FGM in a Detroit-area clinic. The judge maintained that the practice should be regulated by the states, that it was not a federal issue. A law was passed by Congress banning the procedure in 1996.
During this case, prosecutors revealed that a network of doctors across the country exists, ready to perform these procedures secretly. Most U.S. states now ban the procedure, but it is still in practice and probably increasing as unassimilated, unaccountable immigrant communities grow.
However, just as trans procedures were quite rare twenty and thirty years ago, and most people thought gender “transition” was outrageous for children, keep your eye on this practice as pressure from the left grows to accept FGM as part of Muslim “culture.”
Daniel Greenfield pointed out at Jihad Watch that we are seeing recent deference to this practice. In Minneapolis, with its large Somali population, the health department has softened its recommendations, urging Americans to approach women who have had FGM with “humility” and “to view FGM as ‘opportunity to learn about their culture and view of health as well as to teach about ours.’”
And of course, it’s not just non-citizens subjecting their girls to this abuse. Muslims born here do this to their girls as well. It’s also practiced by other ethnic/religious groups, yet the prevalence is among Muslims.
While the whole world is showing up on America’s doorstep, let’s take the opportunity to witness to them about Christian faith as well as what American freedom entails. And a critical premise of both Christian doctrine and American civil law is that we protect women and children from harm.
Another powerful witness is to stand up for civic laws in the first place. No Christian should support illegal immigration. It’s turning out to be just as predicted: heightened chaos, lawlessness, abuse, sex and drug trafficking, welfare overload, and an increased threat of terrorism. The orderly, lawful process of immigration should be followed instead.
Get in line to come to the U.S. legally, disclose your identity and background, have plans to be a productive worker, learn English, and pledge allegiance to America.
Upholding this worthy law is a strong, positive witness and is not cruel, but kind.
