OH Senator Brown's wife, writer Connie Schultz, savages Kim Davis

Linda Harvey responds to Schultz' call to "uproot" this "obstacle"

Connie Schultz is too biased, uninformed and mean to be writing about Kim Davis.

Democrat Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown has a wife-- leftist writer Connie Schultz--who has the usual prejudices and often spews venom wrapped in pretend tolerance. The result is a callous disregard for the real beliefs of real Americans.

When will Connie Schultz write about the tragedy of Planned Parenthood butchery? Probably never. Oh wait-- she already did. She said all the videos were "fake."

Here’s a column she just wrote where she attacks Kim Davis, and I have included my comments in brackets. Please feel free to write to her with your own comments at con.schultz@yahoo.com .

Clerk Kim Davis Will Be a Lonely Footnote in History [No, I suspect this will be the destiny of writers like Connie Schultz.]

By Connie Schultz

Tricky business, this righteous outrage. [Read on and see if you think Connie herself demonstrates compassion and insight.…]

You have to be so careful not to sound like a hypocrite while you're deriding hypocrisy. Messes with your sleep.

In the past few days, America's news media — from the largest organizations to the smallest blogs — have made a star of a 49-year-old woman in Appalachia named Kim Davis….

I'm angry as all get-out over what Davis is doing, but I can't blame her for relishing the national attention….[When did Kim Davis ever ask for national attention? Davis tried repeatedly to obtain a behind-the-scenes, administrative solution--and many are available--to accommodate her beliefs, to no avail. And guess what, Connie? She did not put herself in jail.]

After the U.S. Supreme Court essentially told her to knock it off, Davis released an online statement through her new best friends, the far-right Liberty Counsel.[ Labels and smears don't help here. Will Connie ever call Planned Parenthood a "far-left" organization? Or her spouse a "far-left Democrat"?] An excerpt:

"I owe my life to Jesus Christ who loves me and gave His life for me. Following the death of my godly mother-in-law over four years ago, I went to church to fulfill her dying wish. There I heard a message of grace and forgiveness and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I am not perfect. No one is. But I am forgiven and I love my Lord and must be obedient to Him and to the Word of God.
"I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage."

A brief interruption here to note what Jesus said about homosexuality.

Absolutely nothing.

[ Sigh-- here’s this urban legend “gay” talking point again. It’s totally untrue and contrary to long-understood Christian doctrine. Jesus defined marriage as one man, one woman in Matthew 19 and Mark 10--no mention of two men or two women-- and all other Scripture is under His authority, where there’s lots of specific mentions of homosexuality as sin. This is because Jesus was not just a man, or a wise prophet. Essential Christian doctrine holds that Jesus was and is divine-- the Son in the Holy Trinity, existing from the beginning. Jesus was the long-expected Messiah, Emmanuel, which means “God with us.” His divinity is revealed in Matthew 16:13- 20, Matthew 17:5-9, Mark 8:27-30, Luke 4:16-30, Luke 9:18-21,John 4:25-26, John 8:57-59 and elsewhere. As one with God, He was present from the beginning of creation --John 1: 1-13; Colossians 1:15-17; Ephesians 3:9 and elsewhere. So all Scriptural prohibitions on homosexuality -- and everything else---are considered part of the teachings of Jesus.]

Back to Davis: "To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God's definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience. It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision. For me it is a decision of obedience. I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God's Word."

As that excerpt illustrates, Davis is unreachable regarding her version of Christianity. Ridiculing her faith, her appearance and her multiple marriages, as so many have, only further convinces her of her rightness. [And you mentioning these only continues the vicious gossip, doesn't it? Kim has never seemed to be a self-righteous person. This is just petty and mean.] She thinks God wants her to be a martyr. [ No evidence Kim ever sought all this attention.] To her and those using her, our ridicule — our persecution — is proof that she is right.

We've been here before in this country, and as we have before, we will soon uproot this obstacle on the road to justice. [“Uproot"?? What does THAT mean? Sounds quite ominous. No more freedom for you Christians, I guess. Welcome to the USSR.]

NPR's Robert Siegel asked Columbia University law professor Katherine Franke whether Davis' refusal to marry same-sex couples mirrors white officials' refusal to accept racial equality in the 1950s and '60s.

"It's exactly the same situation," Franke said.

[No, the only similarity to racial struggles is the way the godless media and the government treat Christians. If Kim was a Muslim, they would have found--voila!-- a way to reasonably accommodate her faith. But the mocking--like Schultz’s here-- is condoned and institutionalized. What’s next-- fire hoses turned on pro-Christian demonstrators? Attack dogs? Yes, there are similarities to the deep South in the 1950s, sadly, showing we have not “progressed” at all but simply found a different set of victims.]

"I think that certain people in certain places are changing their view on homosexuality ... but not everyone is there yet. [No, and many, praise God, never will be because we understand the truth. Some, like me, used to approve and changed our minds, when we became informed by Scripture combined with common sense. Some of us rationally see sodomy as an unnatural risk, not an “equal right.”] And some people base their opposition to equality for same-sex couples — or for lesbians and gay men — in religion, but they can't use those values as a justification for not performing public functions…. [So-- “constitutional rights for me but not for thee?” Sounds like fascism.]

Davis is a flawed human, and in that, she has a lot in common with the rest of us. As various news organizations have reported, Davis has been married four times…
We can point to her circuitous route to redemption and her current state of religious certainty and declare her a fool and a hypocrite. Or we can see her as a woman who has joined that long list of humans looking for a chance to be something other than their biggest mistakes. I'm not going to get into the reasons my name is on the list. How about you?

I am not excusing Kim Davis' bigotry. I just don't want to let it harden my own heart. [Oh, please!! Your heart is hardly soft and compassionate toward Kim. Your contempt is dripping from this article. Give us all a break.]

I do, however, want to know why it is that the meanest of my fellow Christians claim they get their marching orders from God while the decent ones just keep acting like Jesus, loving everyone as best they can. [You have this upside down. Your perception of what is "mean" bears little resemblance to reality. Decent, faithful, loving people think homosexuality is harmful to everyone-- because we believe what God taught. Others make it up as they go along, or as the culture leads, and falsely call their little designer god “Jesus.”]

I'm going to be thinking about that all evening. I expect it will be a long night. [ And just how much sleep do any of us believe Connie lost here? Not one wink….]
